The New Farm & Teneriffe Dog Friendly Riverside Trail
Brisbane's best dog walking is along the river, and the Newstead to New Farm stretch strings together breweries, cafes and parkland like it was planned for exactly this. The trail runs south along the riverside from Range Brewing to the New Farm Powerhouse, and it ends the way every dog wishes walks ended: at a fully fenced off-leash park, with a cafe next door that bakes its own dog treats. Queensland's food rules keep dogs outdoors at more venues than the southern states, so the inside stops here are worth noting, and the beer gardens do most of the heavy lifting.

Start at Newstead's favourite taproom. Range is the rare Brisbane venue where the dog comes inside, which makes it the right first stop in any weather.

A short walk over, the beer garden of one of Brisbane's best-known live music venues. The Triffid keeps free treats for dogs, which buys a lot of goodwill for a between-sets beer.

Back toward the river for Teneriffe's flagship brewery. The beer garden is the dog zone, and on a weekend afternoon it is effectively a dog show with taps.

The woolstore-district pub that goes furthest on the trail: dogs welcome inside and out, and there is a dog meal on the menu, so lunch covers the whole table.

A cafe named after the clientele. Barko & Co sits beside the river in Teneriffe, and the name is the policy: dogs are the point, at the outdoor tables.

Finish with the leash off. Powerhouse Park's off-leash area is right next door: fully fenced, with a separate small dog yard, and lit at night, so the trail can run past sunset.

Which stops on the trail let dogs inside?
Three venues: Range Brewing in Newstead, Dalgety 20 Public House in Teneriffe, and the dedicated indoor dog space on the deck at Mary Mae's Kitchen. Queensland's food rules keep dogs to outdoor areas at most cafes and pubs, so the beer gardens carry the rest of the trail, and Brisbane weather rarely minds.
Can I walk the whole trail with my dog?
Yes, and it is the best walking surface of any of our trails: most of it follows the riverside path from Newstead down through the Teneriffe woolstores to New Farm, about three kilometres end to end. Is the off-leash park at the end any good?
It is one of the better-equipped ones in Brisbane: the Powerhouse Park off-leash area is fully fenced, has a separate section for small dogs, and is lit at night. New Farm Park is right there too, and Mary Mae's, with its dog treats and paddle pool, sits next door for afterwards.
Where does the dog get fed on this trail?
Twice, properly. Dalgety 20 has a dog meal on its menu, and Mary Mae's bakes its own dog treats. The Triffid hands out free treats in the beer garden as well, so a dog doing the full trail eats better than most of us at a festival.
