The Enmore Road Dog Friendly Pub Trail
If King Street is where Newtown shows off, Enmore Road is where it relaxes. The strip peels off the south end of King and runs southwest past the Enmore Theatre, and it has quietly become one of the best short pub walks in the inner west for anyone with a dog. Six stops, a couple of breweries among them, and four that take your dog inside. This is the run from the King Street end down to the Golden Barley on Edgeware Road, in walking order. It picks up more or less where the Newtown King Street trail leaves off, so you can stitch the two into one long afternoon if the legs, and the dog, are willing.

Start where Enmore Road meets King Street, at the inner west's most famous brewery. Young Henrys is a working brewhouse with a tasting bar bolted on, loud and busy and entirely at ease with a dog underfoot.
Welcome everywhere, inside and out. Water bowls around the venue for thirsty pups.
- 02
A few doors down, a proper unpretentious local. The Magpie is the sort of corner pub where the footy is on and nobody blinks at a dog at the bar.
Welcome throughout the bar, both inside and out front.
- 03
The second brewery on the strip, and the most openly dog smitten of the lot. Hopsters is dog friendly inside and out, always, and sells kangaroo chews at the bar for your pup.
Fully dog friendly inside and out, at all times. Kangaroo chews for sale at the bar.
- 04
A long running Enmore fixture and an institution in its own right. Your dog does not come inside, but the patio comes with extras most pubs would not think of.
Patio only. Some visitors have found water bowls and even a dog menu out there.
- 05
The grand old pub at the Enmore end, and the last of the inside stops. Roomy, easygoing, and happy to have your dog in the bistro as well as out in the garden.
Inside the bistro and out in the beer garden. Water bowls provided, and dog treats at the bar.
- 06
Finish a few minutes south on Edgeware Road. The Golden Barley keeps dogs to its big beer garden, which is exactly where you would want to end a walk anyway.
Beer garden only. Water bowls available.
Dog owner FAQs
Which Enmore Road pubs let dogs inside?
Four of the six here. Young Henrys, The Magpie, Hopsters and The Warren View all take dogs indoors, and the two breweries could not be keener about it. The Sly Fox is patio only and the Golden Barley is beer garden only, though both are pleasant places to sit outside.
Can I walk the whole Enmore Road trail with my dog?
Yes. The first five stops sit within a few hundred metres of each other along Enmore Road, with the Golden Barley a short walk further south on Edgeware Road. Use the "Open the trail in Google Maps" button above to load the walking route with every pub as a waypoint.
Can I combine the Enmore and Newtown pub trails?
Easily. Enmore Road branches off the south end of King Street, so the Enmore trail starts about where the Newtown King Street trail finishes. Do one in the afternoon and the other into the evening, or just cherry-pick the inside stops from both if the weather turns.
Which Enmore pubs have treats or a dog menu?
Hopsters sells kangaroo chews at the bar, The Warren View keeps dog treats there too, and The Sly Fox has been known to put out a dog menu on the patio. Carry water as well, since it is an easy strip to spend a few hours on.
